Hearts and Hammers
Since its inception in 1992, Hearts and Hammers has addressed a variety of repair needs on over 530 homes ranging from code violations; safety, health and security concerns; preventative maintenance that if unmet would have led to more costly repairs.
Hearts and Hammers projects typically can accommodate 1-10 volunteers. Assistance is provided at no-cost to the homeowner, thanks to the generous support of community organizations and local businesses, along with hands-on assistance from a broad spectrum of volunteers from all walks of life. The program focuses on repairing homes to enable the program recipient to reside in their home with a renewed sense of hope and dignity.
In order to be a sponsoring volunteer group, an organization has two options: 1) The group assembles volunteers and contributes $500 to cover the cost of materials, insurance and t-shirts, with a small portion of these funds covering administrative cost of each project. 2) The group assembles volunteers, buys the materials and supplies required to repair the home and contributes $100 to cover the cost of insurance and t-shirts. We also welcome skilled individual volunteers who are interested in leading a team or working on a small project.
