Rebuilding Together
Rebuilding Together is the leading national volunteer organization work in in partnership with communities to rehabilitate owner-occupied low-income housing. Nationally through 2006, Rebuilding Together programs will have rehabilitated 105,020 homes and non-profit facilities using almost 2.5 million volunteers.
With the efforts of more than 54,000 community volunteers, RPJ Housing has repaired over 1,950 homes and non-profit facilities since it began sponsoring the program in 1988. This neighbor-helping-neighbor approach unites 2,000 skilled and unskilled volunteers from diverse backgrounds with 55 low-income homeowners and non-profit organizations each year. Volunteers are able to make both major and minor repairs and renovations that result in life changing improvements for the homeowners and organizations served.
Rebuilding Together provides home repairs free of charge and gives priority to those low-income households with older adults, persons with disabilities or families with children. By bringing together resources from businesses, congregations, and dedicated community members, Rebuilding Together is able to address pressing repair needs of those homeowners who, because of financial constraints, age and physical limitations are unable to make or pay for repairs themselves. Our goal is to keep people living in warmth, safety and independence, while helping to build better communities.
Rebuilding Together is a partnership between the sponsor, the recipient and RPJ Housing. The most important element of this partnership is the commitment of time and resources from our sponsors. In return, RPJ Housing provides a project that matches the skills and size of each group as well as training and technical assistance. Organizations wishing to "sponsor" a home donate up to $2,500 and designate a team captain who is knowledgeable and skillful in the home improvement field.
